Last night, November 19, 2012 at the Audelco Awards for Excellence in Black Theatre held at Symphony Space on Broadway in Manhattan, Michael Walsh, owner of The Smooth Spot, a New York City recording studio, won the Outstanding Musical Director Award for his work on Sally and Tom: The American Way at the Castillo Theater. Mr. Walsh, with his musical partner, David Belmont, created all the musical tracks for this show in The Smooth Spot recording studio and worked with the very talented cast of singers. Two of the cast, Ava Jenkins and Brian D. Hills were also honored for their work in the show along with the director, Gabrielle L. Kurlander. The show also won the Musical Production of the Year Award. Michael spoke about what an honor it was to work at a theater that dared to deal with important issues and make a difference in the world and he thanked Fred Newman and Annie Roboff for creating a brilliant piece of theater.
