Had an absolute blast in our song recording session with Michael. The equipment was great, and Michael worked wonderfully collaboratively with us. The recordings sounded great, and everything was really well mastered. We can’t wait to come back and do more work at The Smooth Spot.

The genius of Michael Kevin Walsh (it IS genius) is his ability to record, organize, edit, and mix everything AS you record it. What for me would take a week to do badly takes him no time at all to do brilliantly. It's a cakewalk for Michael (software joke). Could not recommend more highly!

This was wonderful experience and very professional!
Can’t wait to get my next project started! Bravo!

I had a terrific piano recording experience with Michael at the studio. He makes every effort to make you feel comfortable, and the end result is exceptional quality. I'll certainly be returning for future sessions.

To say that I am a novice when it comes to recording would be an understatement. I was referred to Michael at The Smooth Spot and it was the best choice I could have ever made. Michael is extremely professional, and that radiated to my team and I which made us feel comfortable and at easy and that manifested itself in a superior track. I’m already working on future tracks and will definitely be going back to Michael at The Smooth Spot.

I've recorded at the Smooth Spot twice, both times for original songs for motion pictures. I couldn't be happier. Michael Walsh does great work efficiently. The quality and value are outstanding. The space is conducive to the creative process. I'll keep coming back as long as I have things to record.

The Smooth Spot? Who knew that this amazing studio, (tucked away on W. 46th St.) would prove to be the highlight of my year. My first time having an original song videotaped in front of a green screen, and I was simply blown away. The stellar facilities. Michael Kevin Walsh’s expertise and kindness…Bravo, Bravo. I will be back!

I LOVE The Smooth Spot. I’ve recorded original songs with Michael Walsh there many times, and it was always a great experience. Michael knows what he’s doing as an engineer, and he’s extremely kind and supportive of my work. I highly recommend THE SMOOTH SPOT to any artist.

I love Michael! I first met Michael in 2004 after he had posted a flyer for "his services" at the Actors' Equity Building (the old bulletin board in the hallway, outside the old Audition Center, that used to be on the 2nd floor). He had been "open" for a while but was still getting the "word-out" by posting flyers. I needed to go over some audition material on short-notice and called him (out of the blue) from his flyer. He was able to fit me in... and that first meeting has led to an almost 2 decade professional relationship! I remember him when he was just getting going... just the grand piano, some tape decks, a keyboard. Long before the sound-proofing and the video equipment and the green-screen and video backgrounds and the lighting. Before all his "investments" in building the sound booth and ALL of the state of the art, digital and computerized equipment he has now. I remember thinking... what a nice guy and so easy to work with! That hasn't changed. He's skilled, he listens, gives you what you need or want. His prices have always been fair, reasonable, -better than fair. Michael has great suggestions and insights. What has always impressed me over the years most is how diversified Michael has become. His studio has GROWN and he can work with "artists" across the board now... in all types of media and for all types of reasons. And if for some reason he doesn't know how to do what you want (or need) he'll figure it out! or he'll honestly tell you. You can go to him to just "sing" or record an audition-track, "coach" music, video or audio record. You and he "decide" what would work best... And you feel like you are involved in the session creatively. He'll show you what he is doing, explain it or help you to understand. His studio is in his home. The entire first floor. Great, easy access, prime location in MIDTOWN, NYC. Yet it "feels" homey, welcoming and unique. Michael is a good guy. I'd often bring us both a coffee and we'd begin by catching-up just a bit, looking some at the music first beforehand (at the big round oak table) or just talk about the upcoming audition before we'd begin -whatever I needed. It always feels relaxed. I think of him as a friend as well as a professional resource. And I have seen him grow his dream. He's stayed competitive in a tough business, through good and tough times... he's stayed true to his passion (music) and really wants to help and work with Artists of all kinds "creatively"... Michael Walsh is 5 "stars" PLUS!... indeed! -dw

I was able to do some complicated work on arrangements in a relaxed , professional environment . Michael( studio owner ) was able to meld his musical expertise and knowledge of studio equipment and computer programs for orchestrating , with my ideas . Work also included live singing , sound effects , transpositions , and vocal charts for ensemble . Always a very up beat , productive session !

The Smooth Spot is perfect. Owner Michael Walsh is a skilled and talented engineer who has guided me through the creation of numerous voiceovers and musical theatre recordings. Conveniently located in Hell's Kitchen, I will definitely use The Smooth Spot again in the future and encourage you do the same! You won't be disappointed!

Michael Walsh at the Smooth Spot has been my go-to neighborhood recording studio for several years now. Very professional, willing to go the extra mile, knowledgeable and a great set-up for in-booth or ambient sound in a larger space. I have needed video in addition to audio for several projects which he has been able to deliver. Great that I can record both at once. Michael is willing to listen to your needs and will go above and beyond to accomplish what you need. Great working with him.

Michael Walsh, owner and engineer, is supportive and helpful. A performer himself, he makes sure everyone he records is comfortable, so that they can perform to the best of their abilities. He seeks to solve problems if they arrive. I have sung, played, and produced in his space and have always been delighted with the results. The space is intimate and conducive to relaxation. His prices are reasonable and the experience optimal.
